After experimenting for a bit, I've started forging the larger curtain rods. These vary from 5-8' long and are 1" diameter rods. The process and final dimensions for the finials has been worked out but I'm waiting on some laser work from the metal shop in Monte Vista.
A quick look at the jig I'm hoping will allow me to squish the finials in the fly press. These are bound for the large curtain rods.
Well, maybe not HOLD DOOR, but rather HOL-CURTAIN. (apologies if you don't get the reference.) Finished the curtain hold backs. The first picture is the raw steel (wire brushed) and the second picture is after they have been acid etched and some wax applied to discourage rust. Just need some rough hand polishing to remove excess wax.
